Global Games events and festivals are designed to give children and their families world class experiences that they will remember forever. We create opportunity's for junior sports teams to tour out of their home regions and explore some of the best destinations New Zealand and the world has to offer. To date we have connected over 33,000 young people from around the country and the world to come together and play the sport they love in venues and stadiums normally reserved for their sporting hero's.
GLOBAL GAMES VS COVID
Covid continues to have massive impacts across the world, affecting everyone and most industries. The events and tourism industry that Global Games operates in was destroyed in a matter of weeks and we, like so many others, were not spared. Over 250 of our junior teams from here and overseas had their tours cancelled - some only weeks out from departing for overseas tours that they had planned and fundraised for over 18 months.
Everyone of our 2020 festivals and events had to be cancelled at short notice. Our international events in France and Wales in April and May cancelled, followed by all our New Zealand events in September after the August Covid outbreak. Without a doubt these are massive set backs on every level. In the case of the international events, years of work disappearing in just a matter of days and most upsetting for the teams that it affected.
Though we have been knocked down and the very essence of our existence to connect people from around the world has temporarily become intangible, we wont be giving up. Instead we are setting ourselves a new pathway.
We are now in discussions with stakeholders across the country to launch a number of new domestic events and festivals for junior teams to enjoy and experience. Events, that when the time is right, can be opened up to our friends around the Globe.
