Dispensations and Exemption Requests

"The responsibility for ensuring players meet the published eligibility criteria rests with the entering club. Clubs should not assume that dispensations will be granted and should make team selections accordingly.”

Global Games recognises that from time to time clubs may face unique circumstances involving individual players. However, all eligibility regulations, including age, weight and grading requirements, are established to ensure player safety, fairness, and the integrity of the competition.

As a general principle, dispensations will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and should not be relied upon as part of normal team selection or planning.

Any club seeking a dispensation must:

  • Submit the request at least 6 weeks before the event on club letterhead to carla@globalgames.co.nz
  • Ensure the request is made by the Club Chairperson, President, Committee, or another authorised club representative, rather than by the coaching group of team.
  • Provide full details of all players for whom a dispensation is being sought at the time of application.
  • Clearly outline the exceptional circumstances that justify the request.
  • Explain why the request should be considered despite the published regulations.
  • Demonstrate how player safety considerations have been assessed.
  • Acknowledge why the exemption would remain fair to all other participating teams who have complied with the regulations.

When assessing any dispensation request, the committee will consider:

  • Player safety.
  • Fairness to all participating teams and players.
  • The spirit and intent of the competition regulations.
  • Whether alternative grades, divisions, or events are available.
  • The precedent that may be created for future events.

The granting of a dispensation is not automatic and should be regarded as an exception rather than an entitlement. Any approved dispensation must be capable of being transparently justified to all participating clubs and stakeholders.

The committee reserves the right to decline any request where it believes the exemption would compromise player safety, create an unfair advantage, undermine the integrity of the competition, or be inconsistent with the regulations accepted by all participating teams.
